Def Polarisation Light is a type of electromagnetic wave that travels through space in the form of oscillating electric and magnetic fields. The direction of the electric field vector in time is referred to as the direction of polarisation. When the electric and magnetic fields oscillate in all directions perpendicular to the direction of wave propagation, the light is said to be unpolarised. However, when the oscillation of the electric and magnetic fields is restricted to a specific plane perpendicular to the direction of wave propagation, the light is said to be polarized.

Comment

The polarisation of light generally takes on three states, commonly referred to as linear, circular and elliptical polarisations.
